BGB pays tributes to Milestone teacher Mahreen Chowdhury

NILPHAMARI, July 26, 2025 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has paid tributes to the grave of brave teacher of Milestone School and College Mahreen Chowdhury, who was killed in a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet crash in the capital’s Uttara, at Bogulagari Chowdhurypara village in Jaldhaka upazila in the district.

Under the arrangement of BGB, Rangpur Region, members for the border forces, teachers and students of two BGB-run schools of Rangpur reached the village placed wreaths at the grave of Mahreen Chowdhury.

Salutes were offered, a one-minute of silence was observed and prayers were offered for the seeking eternal peace of her departed soul. 

High-ranking officials of BGB from Rangpur, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, teachers and students of  Border Guard Public School and College, Rangpur  and Thakurgaon Border Guard High School were present.

Thakurgaon BGB Sector Commander Colonel Golam Rabbani said Mahreen Chowdhury was not just a teacher rather an embodiment of humanity. 

Through her great sacrifice, she has taught the future generation tolerance, humanity and sense of responsibility, he said. 


“She has proven that teaching is not just a profession, it is a great vow that is always shining with sociality and humanity. Today, we are proud to pay tribute to this great, fearless and self-sacrificing Mahreen Chowdhury," said Colonel Golam Rabbani.

He said Mahreen Chowdhury sacrificed her life to save the lives of 20 teachers. Even after 80 percent of her body was burned, she tried her best to save the lives of the children, he said. 

“Her great sacrifice, humanity and bravery have resonated with the entire nation. The BGB family is also deeply saddened, shocked and speechless by this tragic and heartbreaking incident,” he said.

Responding to the call of conscience, students, teachers and teachers of various schools and colleges run by the BGB have come here today to pay their respects at the grave of the great teacher, he said. 

“We paid our respects by observing a minute of silence and by laying wreaths. And we prayed for the repose of her departed soul through prayers,” he said.
On July 21, Mahreen Chowdhury, a teacher of Milestone School and College was injured in the training fighter jet crash and passed away at night. 

She was laid to eternal rest at the family graveyard in Bogulagari Chowdhurypara village of Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari at around 4 pm on July 22. 

She was the president of the management committee of Bogulagari School and College in her native village.
