DHAKA, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today showed former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former lawmaker Momtaz Begum arrested in separate cases filed over incidents during the 2024 July Uprising.

Among them, Inu and Palak were shown arrested in a case filed over the killing of Russel Gazi in the capital's Ashulia area, while Momtaz was shown arrested in a separate case filed over an attempted murder of Farhad Hossain in the same area.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohag passed the orders as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the respective cases. The court granted the pleas and sent them back to jail.

According to case details, Russel Gazi, 27, was shot in the Gazir Char area of Ashulia on August 5, 2024, and later succumbed to his injuries at Enam Medical College Hospital. A murder case was filed with Ashulia Police Station on September 8, 2024.

Farhad Hossain, meanwhile, sustained bullet injuries on August 4, 2024, while allegedly attempting to lay siege to the Ashulia Police Station along with fellow anti-discrimination protesters. He filed an attempted murder case on September 29, 2024.

Hasanul Haque Inu was arrested from a house in the city's Uttara area on August 25, 2024, while Zunaid Ahmed Palak was arrested from Nikunja on August 14, 2024. Momtaz Begum was arrested from the Dhanmondi area on May 12, 2025.
