DHAKA, July 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Acting Chairman of the party Tarique Rahman is concerned over the illness of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
“He (Tarique Rahman) enquired about the Ameer's physical condition over telephone,” Fakhrul told reporters after visiting Jamaat Ameer at Ibne Sina Hospital here this evening.
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer fell sick during the party’s national rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan this afternoon.
The BNP Secretary General went to Ibn Sina Hospital at 8:15 pm today to visit the Jamaat Ameer following the directives of Tarique Rahman.
After the party's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman fell ill on the stage during a national rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, he was quickly admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi in the capital.
Upon receiving this news, Mirza Fakhrul immediately rushed to the hospital to see the Jamaat Ameer.
Fakhrul spent some time bedside the Jamaat Ameer. At that time, he told the Ameer that Tarique Rahman was concerned over Ameer's illness. He had personally called Mirza Fakhrul to enquire about the health condition of the Jamaat Ameer.
In response, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman thanked Tarique Rahman through Mirza Fakhrul.
Later, after leaving the hospital, in response to questions from journalists, the BNP Secretary General said, "We have come as part of political etiquette. He is feeling better than before. We are reassured. Because, we think it is important for Ameer to recover at this critical moment in Bangladeshi politics."
Mirza Fakhrul was accompanied by BNP Standing Committee Members Dr. Moyeen Khan and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain and party media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.
