Mongla Port fetches Tk 41 crore more profit in last fiscal

BAGERHAT July 10, 2025 (BSS) - Mongla Port has earned Taka 343.33 crore revenue during 2024-2025 fiscal year, which is Taka 41.64 crore more than the target.

Revenue income, ship arrivals, cargo handling and container handling rates have increased comparing to the target, according to the information delivered at a meeting with journalists by senior port officials.

Mongla Port Authority Member (Finance) Kazi Abed Hossain, Chief Finance and Accounts Officer Siddiqur Rahman, Chief Hydrographer Commander Russell Ahmed Khan, Director (Traffic) Kamal Hossain, Deputy Director of Board and Public Relations Department Md. Makruzzaman and other officials of the port authority were present.

Officials said, the number of port users is increasing day by day due to the sincerity of the port officials and employees, proper use of limited resources, and the facilities of fast loading and unloading of goods. 

?Officials said ship arrival in the port has been on rise after an internal business development standing committee was formed to monitor the ship handling. 

In 2024-25 fiscal year a total of 830 ships arrived in the port against the target of 800 ships. During this period, the cargo handling target was 88.80 lakh MT while actual handling was 104.12 lakh MT. The container handling was 21 thousand 456 TEUs against the target of 20 thousand TEUs, they said.

?In this fiscal year, a total of 11,579 units of reconditioned vehicles have been imported through Mongla Port. 

Officials said there is no ship congestion at Mongla Port while the turnaround time for unloading containers is 1.66 /40 hours. 

There are special facilities for car importers. There are 38 auxiliary vessels at the port of Mobak, including 07 container yards, tug boats, pilot boats, mooring boats, pilot dispatch boats, survey boats, dredger units, etc. for storing containers. The ISPS code is followed properly in terms of port security. There is a ship berthing facility of 8.5 meters draft in front of the port jetty.

The Coast Guard regularly patrols to provide security during the arrival and departure of foreign ships. Goods are transported safely, easily and cheaply from the port to different parts of the country by road and waterways.

?The installation of lighted buoys and light towers in the 144-kilometer long port channel has created adequate navigational facilities for safe and smooth movement of ships day and night, and there are berthing facilities at 49 different points for foreign commercial ships.

There are 134 modern equipments for container and cargo handling. Safe storage and handling facilities are available at the Roosevelt Jetty in Khulna.

?There is a one-step service facility at the jetty area of ??Mongla Port, where permission issuance, bill payment, indents; equipment booking and payment facilities are available at the same time.

Currently, food grains, fertilizers, vehicle LP gas, slag, limestone, soybean oil, edible oil, fuel oil, fresh food, general goods, gypsum, machinery equipment, wooden logs, coal, stone, clinker, palm oil, fluid oil, fly ash, iron, oil seed, steel pipes, chitagur etc. are imported through Mongla Port.

The exported products include garment products, jute, jute products, shrimp, white fish, dried fish, clay, crab, machinery, cotton yarn, frozen food.

Mongla Port Authority Member Kazi Abed Hossain said that this port has become more developed than before, its capacity has increased. 

He said, several development projects are underway, including construction of the port's jetty, and inner bar dredging. Once these works are completed, the capacity of Mongla Port will increase significantly, they noted.
