DHAKA, July 5, 2025 (BSS) - A training workshop on “Halal product market, procedures for following production of halal products and halal certificate collection process” was held at the boardroom of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) in the capital today.
Organised by the BCI, Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman attended the workshop as the chief guest where BCI President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) presided over the workshop.
Former Director of Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) Md. Khaled Abu Naser, BSTI Deputy Director SM Abu Sayeed, and BSTI Assistant Director Ms. Rebecca Sultana were present as discussants and trainers, said a press release.
The workshop was conducted by BCI Secretary General Dr. Md. Helal Uddin.
A total of 22 representatives from different institutions and sectors participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Industries Secretary Obaidur Rahman said the halal product market is globally a fast-growing sector with growing demand not only among Muslims but also among non-Muslims for its reliability as healthy, hygienic and safe products.
He noted that halal products are not only limited to food products, but also it encompasses around cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, clothing, tourism and many other sectors.
Obaidur Rahman highlighted that countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey are currently the largest consumers of halal products while such demand is also increasing gradually in Europe.
Brazil, Australia and Thailand are among the top exporters of halal products, he said adding that Bangladesh, being a Muslim-majority country, has immense potential in this field.
“With planned initiatives, quality production and proper marketing, we can secure a significant share in the global halal market. Halal products can become the next golden export sector for Bangladesh,” he added.
Md. Khaled Abu Naser discussed on the global halal products market in the technical session of the workshop.
SM Abu Sayeed and Rebecca Sultana discussed on the procedures to be followed in producing halal products and obtaining halal certificates and replied to various questions from the participants.
On completion of the workshop, participants shared their feedback and received certificates.
