DHAKA, June 2, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today said though “fascist rule” has fallen, but the goal has not been achieved yet.
“The goal for which we have ousted fascism has not been achieved yet. The people of Bangladesh have not yet been able to establish their elected government by exercising their fundamental right to vote,” he said.
Nazrul made the remarks while talking to journalists after laying wreaths at Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here.
He said, “We, therefore, believe that the main task at this moment is to establish people’s rule with the aim of fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs and building a humane, democratic, and progressive modern Bangladesh.
That is possible only through voting, through elections.”
Nazrul along with party leaders including Zakir Hossain Babul, convener of the newly formed Mymensingh South District Committee, Member Secretary Rokonuzzaman Sarker Rokon, laid a wreath at the grave of BNP founder former President Ziaur Rahman this morning.
Party's Joint Secretaries General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam, and Assistant Organizing Secretary Wares Ali Mamun were present.
Alleging that a group was trying to obstruct unity, Nazrul said, "We believe that the people know very well who is a dictator and who is democratic, who established a dictatorship in this country, who supported the dictatorship directly or indirectly, and who was persecuted while fighting for lasting democracy, which party’s thousands of leaders and workers were victims of enforced disappearances, murdered, against whom lakhs of cases have been filed”.
“The people also know who is uncompromising for democracy. So we don't think that any other political party will say anything and the people will accept it," he said.
In response to a question, Nazrul said, "If any BNP leader is involved in a crime anywhere in the country, organizational action will be taken against them. BNP will not hinder them if action is taken according to the law, but will be happy."
