COX'S BAZAR, July 2, 2025(BSS) - A court here today granted another three-day police remand for former lawmaker of Cox's Bazar-1constituency Jafar Alam in connection with a case of Pekua Thana.

Inspector Anwar Hossain of Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court told the journalists that Jafar Alam, president of Chokoria Upazila Awami League, was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Anwarul Kabir after the end of his 14 days police remand. Pekua Thana police prayed for grating his seven days of remand in connection with another case filed with the police station. 

The court after hearing the statement of the prosecution granted his three-day police remand. The same court earlier granted his four-day remand in connection with two other cases of the same police station.

Advocate Golam Sarwar, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Chokoria court, said the former lawmaker was taken on police remand following a case for his alleged involvement in vote rigging at Bottoli Shafiqia Dakhil Madrasha centre during the 11th parliament election on December 30 in 2018. He beat up a BNP agent, drove him out from the polling centre at that time and bagged most of the votes of that centre by rigging. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pekua Thana Mohammad Sirajul Mostafa told BSS that the former lawmaker from Chokoria-Pekua constituency was taken to Pekua Thana for interrogation for seven days in connection with three cases. His security has been ensured by police during the time of interrogation at Pekua Thana, the OC added.

Jafar Alam was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from the capital on April 27. He was later taken to Cox's Bazar in connection with several cases with various police stations of Cox's Bazar district.
