DHAKA, June 29, 2025 (BSS) – BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today hoped the next parliamentary elections will be held in February.

"I do not see any sign that the elections will not be held in February. I see that the elections will be held in February,” he said while replying to a question over various Islamic party leaders demand for holding local government polls before national one at Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s rally Saturday.

Khasru held a press briefing following a meeting between Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the Chairperson's office in Gulshan.

Party’s organizing secretary Shama Obaid was present at the press conference.

He said the people across the country are preparing for the February elections while the Election Commission is preparing too and they are ready to hold the parliamentary polls.

“There is no reason to make efforts to disrupt the next elections by raising unnecessary questions," he said.

About violence against women, Khasru urged  the government to take tougher actions for stopping rape incidents.
Noting that some are out to politicize these rape incidents, the BNP leader said some are making attempts to take advantage in the next election by committing these incidents but they have no chance of succeeding.

“There is no chance of diverting people's attention by giving a political color to rape incidents as everyone knows who committed that incident in Cumilla. As far as I know, it is someone involved in Awami League politics, which has also come up on social media, and the news has also come up in various newspapers,” he said.

Regarding Bangladesh-India relations, bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India must be maintained in the light of mutual respect and for the sake of protecting each other's interests.
