DHAKA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) - Experts laid emphasis on enhancing the knowledge of women to promote the responsible use of LPG gas and public infrastructure.
They observed that many houses have been burned due to ignorance and lack of knowledge on the proper use of LPG gas.
They made the observation at a series of meetings under the Emergency Multi-Sector Rohingya Crisis Response Project (EMCRP), supported by the World Bank and implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED),to raise awareness among women on the safe use of LPG gas at Cox's Bazar area, said a press release.
The Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) recently organized a total of 38 meetings.
These sessions were held across various blocks in Rohingya camps and within the host communities of Cox's Bazar.
The main objective of these events is to raise awareness among community women on the safe use of LPG gas during cooking and encourage Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals' (FDMN) and host community women to use LPG gas responsively.
A total of 800 women participated in these meetings held at FDMN camps and in the host community of Cox's Bazar.
After the meetings, the participants expressed their views and shared their valuables insights in the meetings.
Toslima Akter, Ward no- 09, Dineshpur, Shaplapur Union, Moheshkhali, she said, "Today's meeting is very essential for the community people, if such sessions are frequently held at community level, those will make aware men and women and will bring positive outcomes for the entire community".
"In today's meeting, I gained valuable insights into the use of LPG gas. I plan to share this information with my neighbors and stay informed myself. However, I believe these meetings should be held more frequently," said, Jesmin Akter (26), Chowfaldandi, Word No. 05, Cox's Bazar.
Rehana Begum (28), FCN No- 238228, Block-B1, Rohingya Camp-16, she said, "Today's meeting was both informative and valuable. It enhanced my understanding of the safe use of LPG gas. I realized the critical importance of fire prevention, as fires can lead to the destruction of homes and essential infrastructure".
Under the guidance of the Upazila Engineer of LGED and Camp-in-Charge (CiC) and Executive Magistrate, the program staff of BCCP has conducted the comprehensive sessions throughout various blocks in Rohingya camp and different areas in Upazila of Cox's Bazar focusing on the safe use of LPG gas for cooking.
These sessions covered a wide range of topics while key topics included the proper handling of LPG cylinders, emphasizing that those should always be kept upright and away from stoves and flames.
