DHAKA, June 2, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Chairman Justice A K M Abdul Hakim today said with the rapid spread of information and the growth of electronic, online, and social media, it has become harder to ensure ethical journalism, stop misinformation, and protect the rights of journalists.
He made this remark while exchanging views with the heads and representatives of the departments and organizations under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the BPC Conference Room.
The meeting was organized to facilitate seamless coordination with relevant departments and organizations, aiming to transform the Press Council into a strong and media-friendly institution.
With Justice A K M Abdul Hakim in the chair, Khaleda Begum, Director General of the Department of Film and Publications, Md. Fazlul Haque, Managing Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Md. Abdullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, Md. Nizamul Kabir, Principal Information Officer of the Press Information Department, and Ruhul Kabir, Research Officer of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) took part at the meeting.
The speakers at the meeting stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between the Press Council and the departments and agencies under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to safeguard media freedom, uphold and enhance standards, and protect the interests and rights of journalists.
They also put forward a set of recommendations to promote honest and responsible journalism in delivering objective news and to curb misinformation.
Along with this, they also laid emphasize on taking necessary steps to transform the Press Council into an effective and strong media-friendly institution.
