DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today scrapped a plea for bail of
prime accused Zakir Hossain in a case lodged over the brutal attack and
attempt to murder journalists on the premises of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU)
in the city's Segunbagicha area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order after holding a
hearing on the matter. The court, however, allowed bail to his alleged
partner in crimes and also his wife Beauty Khatun.
Police arrested Zakir and Beauty from their Segunbagicha house on May 24.
They were produced before the court on May 25, and were later sent to jail in
the case.
Around 50 miscreants led by Zakir pounced on the journalists on DRU premises
on the night of May 21 using firearms, sharp weapons, and sticks. A couple of
journalists including DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, office secretary Rafiq
Rafi, members Moshiur Rahman, Mahbub Hasan, Delwar Mohin, and Mofijul Sadik
got injured in the attack.
Police and Army units rushed to the area and brought the situation under
control. Later, DRU administration officer Solaiman Hossain filed the case
with the Shahbagh Police Station, naming 10 accused and 50 more unnamed
attackers.
