Palak sent to jail after remand in Sumon murder case

DHAKA, May 8, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to send former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak to jail after ending his remand in connection with Sumon murder case in Badda Police Station.

A team of the Badda Police Station after ending his two days remand in the case produced Palak before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Naznin Akhter and prayed for his confinement in jail till the end of the investigation into the case. The court following a petition submitted by the investigation officer (IO) passed the order.

Another court on April 23 granted two days police remand to Palak in connection with the murder and the IO took Palak into his custody from Kashimpur Central Jail on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, one Abdul Jabbar Sumon, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Merul Badda DIT Project area at about 7.10pm on August 5 during the last year’s July uprising while he was returning home. 

Following the killing, Nazma Begum, mother of the deceased, filed a case with Badda Police Station mentioning the names of nine accused, including former ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Palak.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police on August 14 last year, arrested Palak from city’s Nikunja residential area where he went into hiding after the change over on August 5.
