DHAKA, Feb 15, 2025 (BSS) – The book ‘36-e July Gono Obbhutthan (36th July Uprising)’ by journalist and researcher Muhammad Nure Alam is expected to play a significant role as a key document in the prosecution of genocide cases.
“The book ‘36-e July Gono Obbhutthan’ will serve as a crucial document in the prosecution of genocide cases,” said Anwar Aldin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) while commenting on the book in the capital.
Anwar Al-Din, also Joint Editor of The Daily Ittefaq, said, “After the mass uprising led by students and the general public, the aspirations for an equal, free, humanitarian, and democratic society grew stronger”.
“Those who sacrificed their lives to free the nation from Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime laid the foundation for the dreams of rebuilding the country. This book will remain as a testament to that struggle,” he said.
Terming July Revolution of 2024 as an extraordinary event in the history of politics, Veteran journalist Abul Asad recalled how unarmed students dismantled a dictatorship, astonishing the world with their power of sacrifice over oppression.
“This remarkable struggle is documented by journalist Muhammad Nure Alam in his book ‘36th July Uprising’,” he said.
Author Nure Alam recounts the bloody crackdown on student protesters during the 2024 quota reform movement, where security forces killed over 1,000 and injured 40,000.
He narrates the mass uprising that led to the downfall of Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year regime on August 5, 2024. The book details state-sponsored oppression, extrajudicial killings, corruption, and public resistance leading to Hasina’s resignation and exile, said the author.
Spanning five chapters, the book provides eyewitness accounts, statistical records, and visual documentation of the revolution, making it a vital historical record.
