Preparatory meeting for 2nd edition of 'Notun Kuri Sports' held

DHAKA, July 1, 2026 (BSS)- The national committee today (Wednesday) held a 
preparatory meeting at the Ministry of Youth and Sports to finalize plans for 
the successful arrange of the second edition of 'Notun Kuri Sports', as 
online registration for the nationwide grassroots sporting event officially 
began.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque attended the meeting as 
the chief guest and reviewed the event's overall roadmap while State Minister 
for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, MP, was present as 
special guest.

Speaking at the meeting, Aminul said the inaugural edition of 'Notun Kuri 
Sports' was formally launched in Sylhet on May 2 last, and competitions at 
the upazila, district and divisional levels have already been completed 
successfully. 

The national phase of the tournament is scheduled to begin on July 18 and 
conclude on July 27.

He also said that the second edition would be expanded to the union level, 
allowing broader grassroots participation. 

While the inaugural edition featured eight disciplines, table tennis and 
volleyball have been added this year, increasing the total number of events 
to 10.

Speaking at the meeting, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting 
Yasser Khan Choudhury described the initiative as highly positive and 
impactful.

"We are all connected to Notun Kuri in one way or another," he said, adding 
that the Press Information Department (PID) would be fully engaged to promote 
the tournament at the grassroots and district levels.
 
Joining the meeting, the Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Television (BTV) 
said the state-run broadcaster had embraced the initiative positively and 
would ensure extensive video coverage of the event.
 
BTV would introduce a dedicated segment on 'Notun Kuri Sports' to encourage 
and showcase young athletes, he added.

Senior officials from the relevant ministries also attended the preparatory 
meeting.
