TANGAIL, Sept 11, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said when a woman becomes self-reliant, it is not just an individual but the entire family that becomes self-reliant. 

"To ensure women's empowerment and economic security, the government is providing Family Cards in the names of women," he told a discussion organized by the Tangail District Mohila Dal at a community centre here marking the 48th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.

Tuku said former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia made significant contributions to the education sector, said an official handout. 

Various initiatives undertaken by her government contributed to the country's development, he said.

Continuing this legacy, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is giving the highest priority to women's dignity and empowerment, he said. 

Through the Family Card programme, initiatives have been taken not only to honour women but also to strengthen them economically, he said.

He said the coverage of the Family Card programme is being expanded gradually. An assessment process is currently underway in this regard, he said. Therefore, there is no reason to be confused about the programme. No one will be left out; everyone will gradually be brought under the programme, he said.

The state minister said women are generally thrifty and responsible. They spend money appropriately for the welfare of their families, their children's education and their future, he said. 

Therefore, the initiative to provide women with greater economic capacity will bring positive results for both families and society in the long run, he said.

He said the government has completed only six months since assuming office. Various development and public welfare programmes have already begun to be implemented, he added. 

However, a section is trying to spread various forms of misinformation. He urged everyone not to be misled by such propaganda and to remain aware and vigilant, he said.

The state minister said the people of the country have worked through a long struggle and sacrifice to restore democracy. 

Everyone must remain vigilant so that this achievement is not undermined in any way, he said. Those who stood beside the people during difficult times and worked for the country will be duly recognised, he said.

Addressing the leaders and activists of the Mohila Dal, he said the organization's unity, discipline and engagement with the people must be strengthened further. 

Everyone must play an active role in bringing various government activities aimed at public welfare to the people, he said.

Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shahin, former Member Secretary of Tangail District BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu and former General Secretary of Tangail Mohila Dal Advocate Momtaz Karim also spoke.

Tangail District Mohila Dal President Nilufa Yasmin Khan chaired the meeting while its General Secretary Advocate Roxy Mehedi moderated it.
