DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam today

said young people can completely resolve the country's blood shortage as they account for around 28

percent of the population.

"If young people donate blood regularly at least once a year, there will never be a blood shortage

in the country," he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a voluntary blood donors' recognition ceremony organised by

Quantum Foundation at IDEB Bhaban in the capital.

More than 300 voluntary donors, who have donated blood 3, 10, 25 and 50 times, were honoured with

certificates, crests and medals.

Prof Obaidul said voluntary blood donors are pioneers in building a humane Bangladesh and their

contribution to meeting the country's blood demand will be remembered.

He said patriotism is not merely about emotions or slogans, but also about performing one's duties

honestly and standing beside vulnerable people.

East West University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik presided over the

programme.
