SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs today recommended that the “Special Response Battalion (SRB) Bill, 2026” be placed before the parliament in a revised form after scrutinising the proposed legislation.

The recommendation was made at the committee’s fourth meeting, chaired by its Chairman Zainul Abedin at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. 

The committee held detailed discussions on the bill and subsequently recommended its placement in parliament after incorporating amendments.

During the meeting, members stressed that law enforcement agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), had been misused in the past. However, they said an entire force should not be abolished because of its misuse; rather, its skilled manpower and existing equipment should be utilised effectively.

The committee also emphasised ensuring proper training, professionalism, transparency and accountability among members of the force.

The committee expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies for their cooperation and responsible role during the opposition’s Dhaka-Chattogram long march.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam,  Whip Rakibul Islam and committee members Md Kamruzzaman, Md Monowar Hossain, Shirin Sultana, Mohammad Nurul Islam and Md Abdul Baten attended the meeting.

The senior secretary of the Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police, directors general of departments under the ministry, heads of relevant agencies and senior officials were also present.
