DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh today expressed the hope to working closely with Australia towards finding a sustainable solution to the prolonged Rohingya crisis.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir expressed the hope when Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle paid a courtesy call on him at his office here, according to a foreign ministry press release.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a range of bilateral and multilateral issues, including cooperation in trade, investment, energy and labour mobility, as well as regional and global developments.

Humaiun praised Australia’s continued support in addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis and sought Canberra’s enhanced engagement in efforts to find a lasting solution.

The Australian envoy reaffirmed her country’s continued support for Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya crisis.

“Australia will always stand by Bangladesh in addressing the Rohingya refugee crisis,” she said.
The state minister also sought closer cooperation between Australia’s Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions and Bangladesh’s Technical Training Centres (TTCs).

He particularly underscored the need for Australian cooperation in providing professional training to Bangladeshi caregivers, which could help develop a skilled workforce and create greater overseas employment opportunities.

The high commissioner assured Australia’s continued assistance to Bangladesh in vocational education and training as well as the health sector.

She also noted that Bangladesh and Australia have been working closely at the United Nations and other international forums.
