DHAKA, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) – Urging students to develop the habit of reading more books, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said there is no alternative to books for guiding future generations on the right path.

“Today’s future generation will lead the country tomorrow. So, emphasis must be given to reading good books to develop them into competent and humane citizens,” he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a conference at a city hotel to mark the 12th anniversary of the book-reading programme. Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and bKash jointly organized the event.

Highlighting various government initiatives to make the education system more enjoyable and creative, he said the government is attaching special importance to sports, culture, technical and vocational education, and joyful learning.

“These initiatives of the government will prepare young students for the future,” Milon added.
Referring to corporate social responsibility (CSR), he said CSR activities of different organisations make important contributions to the overall development of society.

“Alongside the state, private organisations should come forward to create enlightened and creative people,” the minister added.

He also urged the younger generation to develop the habit of reading good books to stay away from drugs and harmful mobile-phone addiction.

Executive Director of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Khandaker Md Asaduzzaman and bKash Chief Executive Officer Kamal Quadir also spoke at the programme.
