JASHORE, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said effective learning, necessary skills, confidence and real-life capabilities of every child, rather than merely developing school infrastructure, will be the main priority of primary education.

"The child and his or her learning will be placed at the centre of every decision in the primary education system," he said.

He made the remarks as chief guest at a day-long training workshop titled "Reform of Classroom Activities, Monitoring, Accountability and Administrative Structure in Bangladesh's Primary Education" at the Jashore PTI auditorium today.

The state minister said education quality would be improved through regular monitoring and assessment of what children learn, how much they learn and whether they can apply it in real life.

He said primary education should not be limited to textbooks, adding that a "speaking test" would be introduced to assess children's ability to express themselves clearly and communicate confidently.

"We want a primary education system where every child will learn, be able to express themselves and become confident for the future," he said.

Regarding teacher shortages, Hajjaj said the government has taken an initiative to recruit more than 30,000 assistant teachers in government primary schools within the next year.

He said adequate numbers of qualified and skilled teachers would be recruited to make classroom activities more effective and ensure quality education.

The state minister said the government was working to build an effective, quality and child-centred primary education system in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's vision and election manifesto commitments.

Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashik Hasan presided over the programme.
