RAJSHAHI, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, today said Rajshahi New Government Degree College is one of the country's leading educational institutions and has produced many accomplished people who are contributing to national and international arenas.

He made the remarks as chief guest after inaugurating registration activities for the HSC Alumni Association reunion (1968-2026) at the college auditorium this afternoon.

Minu said many distinguished former students of the institution have served as government secretaries, senior officials, leading private-sector executives and prominent businesspeople.

He also praised the college's students for their strong academic performance, noting that many had secured top positions in HSC examinations over the years.

The minister said the government was undertaking various initiatives to improve the education system, reduce dropout rates and support students from disadvantaged and economically vulnerable backgrounds.

He recalled former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's contribution to the expansion of education, particularly women's education.

Noting that the college is now in its 58th year, Minu said an initiative would be taken to organize a grand Diamond Jubilee celebration on its 60th anniversary with the participation of former students living at home and abroad.

He also announced that the college's dilapidated auditorium would be renovated and modernized soon.

The minister prayed for the eternal peace of teachers and students who had died since the establishment of the institution.

The programme was presided over by HSC Alumni Association Chief Patron Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP.

Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Rajshahi Development Authority Chairman Abul Kalam Azad Sweet, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Isha, Rajshahi College Principal Professor Ibrahim Ali and the college's first alumnus Shahin Uddin Mondal attended as special guests.

New Govt Degree College Principal and HSC Alumni Association Convener Professor Dr Shikha Sarker delivered the welcome address.

Government and private-sector officials, former and current students and teachers, local political leaders and journalists were also present.

The HSC Alumni Association reunion is scheduled to be held on December 26.
