DHAKA, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni today said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making its strides to revive the fragile economy as the previous government siphoned Tk 30 lakh crore out of the country.

"We must remain patient during this time of crisis," he said while addressing Bangladesh Magic Festival 2026 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital, said a press release.

Moni said one minister of the previous government had built 356 houses abroad, while another had allegedly looted Tk 2 lakh crore single-handedly.

He further said more than Tk 1 lakh crore was looted from the power sector and that those responsible were subsequently granted indemnity.

"Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly to rebuild such a fragile economy. By leading a simple and modest lifestyle, he is setting an example for everyone," he said.

He urged people to stop unnecessary criticism and cooperate with the government in order to ensure stability in Bangladesh.

Minhazur Rahman Yuvraj, president of the Sammilito Jadushilpi Sangstha, chaired the event while Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Stalin, magic icon Ali Raj and Chief Engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman also spoke at the event.
