DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today held a bilateral meeting with Andrey Rozhdestvin, Director General of Rosatom Energy Projects Joint- Stock Company, a subsidiary of Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom.
During the meeting, they discussed progress in the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, measures to expedite the supply of electricity from the plant to the national grid, and various bilateral matters, including mutual cooperation in nuclear fuel and the energy sector.
The meeting, held in Washington, D.C. in the USA, included detailed discussions on the overall progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, the swift completion of the remaining work, and the technical and coordination steps required to promptly supply electricity generated by the plant to the national grid while adhering to established procedures.
The Science and Technology Minister noted that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant would play a vital role in meeting Bangladesh's growing electricity demand, ensuring energy security and facilitating long-term sustainable development. He emphasized the need for more effective coordination among all relevant parties to complete the project's remaining activities quickly and properly.
The Rosatom Director General, for his part, briefed the meeting participants on the progress of the Rooppur project and expressed interest in working closely with Bangladesh to advance the various phases of the project according to the established plan.
The meeting also discussed the peaceful use of nuclear energy, nuclear power generation, technical cooperation, skilled manpower development and further strengthening mutual cooperation in the energy sector.
