LGRD Minister made convener of National Awards Committee

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - The government has reconstituted the 10-member Cabinet Committee on National Awards, appointing Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan as its convener.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on August 25, saying that the new committee members will scrutinize proposals from different ministries and make recommendations for conferring national awards.

The notification said the committee members include Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Minister for Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman, Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan, and State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Hoque.

Besides, another nine-member secretariat committee, headed by the Cabinet Secretary, was formed to provide necessary assistance to the Cabinet Committee on National Awards, the notification said.

It said the principal secretary to the prime minister/ secretary to the prime minister’s office and the secretaries of finance, health, education, commerce, information and broadcasting, and other relevant ministries will serve as members of the committee.

The committee is entrusted with scrutinizing proposals received from different ministries for national awards, making recommendations regarding the formal presentation of various national awards and related plans, assessing the need to introduce new national awards, and making recommendations in this regard.

The Cabinet Division will provide overall support for implementing the committee's decisions.

The notification further said the previous notification issued on February 25, 2026, regarding the formation of the committee has been cancelled.

The new order will come into effect immediately.
