DHAKA, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue has called for economically viable agricultural projects to bring about an agricultural revolution in the hill regions.

Speaking at the Ministry's monthly Annual Development Programme (ADP) meeting for July 2026 in city's Bailey road area today, he said the hill soil is suitable for special plantations and urged the use of high-yielding technologies for cashew nut and coffee cultivation.

The minister directed officials to ensure proper land use, increase cash-crop production and establish soil trade centres to assess soil quality. 

He also called for environmentally friendly cultivation of mushrooms and improved varieties of lotkon, while maintaining ecological balance. 
He also encouraged raising sheep and other livestock side by side.

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for CHT Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin urged officials to complete land acquisition within deadlines and rehabilitate genuinely affected families on government khas land. 

He stressed resolving land ownership issues in consultation with Zila Parishad chairmen and customary rules.

He also called for avoiding tobacco cultivation and promoting sugarcane, cotton, cashew and coffee instead. 

The state minister proposed various measures to address water shortages, expand organic fruit orchards and rambutan cultivation and establish cold storage and dried-fruit processing facilities.

The meeting also discussed special educational arrangements for girls at 'para centres (para kendro)' and multimedia classrooms through a central satellite system.

During the occasion, CHT Development Board Chairman Major General (retd) Anup Kumar Chakma and Vice Chairman Sheikh Saleh Ahmad received Best Innovation Awards.
