TANGAIL, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today said the country's education system has deteriorated while the economy has also hit rock bottom.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting on improving the quality of education at Basail Pilot Girls' High School in the district.

"Today we are talking about improving the quality of education. But it is not only the quality of education-the economy has also reached rock bottom," he said.

"We are facing problems with electricity and gas. Bangladesh was once dependent on gas, so why are we facing this problem today? Why is there a crisis now? This Hasina regime, this fascist regime, has destroyed these sectors. It looted in the name of electricity and, instead of extracting gas, simply imported inputs. We have an institution called BEPZA, and they have destroyed that as well," he said.

Khan said the BNP government has taken steps to extract gas after assuming office. 

"We are rapidly taking measures to increase electricity generation. The crisis we are facing now is not our crisis; the fascist regime created it. He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making every possible effort to overcome this crisis. "Insha'Allah, we will overcome it very soon," he said.

Regarding the current problems in education, the minister said the Prime Minister has given specific instructions to the Ministry of Education that there will be no compromise on improving the quality of education.

"Every primary school, every high school, every intermediate college and every degree college must prioritize academic studies first, followed by sports, drama and theatre. All of these are part of our Bangladeshi culture," he said.
