NAOGAON, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain made a surprise visit to Naogaon Sadar Hospital yesterday, where patients expressed satisfaction with the quality of medical services.

Speaking to reporters during the visit, the Health Minister said, "I toured the hospital. I did not receive any bad report from any place. The patients said that after we took responsibility, they have been receiving good services and medicines. The doctors and nurses behave well, and the quality of food is also good."

He said initiatives had been taken to further improve the quality of food served at the hospital and that the measure would be implemented within a few days.

The Health and Family Welfare Minister said healthcare services would be divided into five tiers. As part of the plan, a health hub would be established for every three unions, while a 'Health Wellbeing Center' comprising three wards at the union level would also be established.

Sakhawat said, "We are going to establish 50-bed dialysis centers at medical college hospitals and 10-bed dialysis centers at district sadar hospitals so that patients at the tertiary level do not have to go to Dhaka. Dialysis machines will be available at the district level."

He said, "We had initially declared the upazila health complexes as 101-bed facilities from 50 beds. Later, on the Prime Minister's instructions, we started work to upgrade those from 101 to 151 beds."

Asked whether he had found any irregularities at the hospital, he said, "I found an irregularity at one place. Despite saline being available at the hospital, a senior nurse asked a patient to buy saline from outside. I paid the money to the patient."

Later, the Health Minister visited various health centers in Joypurhat district.
