DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) International President Dr. Javed, Country Representative Elko, Deputy Country Representative Dr. Asish and Country Representative Adviser Imamur Rahman met Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hussain at his office at the Secretariat today.
During the meeting, they discussed ongoing collaboration and MSF’s operations in Bangladesh, according to a press release.
MSF highlighted that its work extends beyond the Rohingya response in Cox’s Bazar. The organisation also serves host communities, with some facilities reporting an almost equal split between Rohingya and host-community patients.
Current priority areas discussed included the national cholera vaccination campaign and dengue prevention efforts in Chattogram, including support for outbreak response, training clinicians on national guidelines and outreach to bring private healthcare providers into disease-reporting systems, it said.
MSF also expressed interest in joining the government’s disaster preparedness task force, citing its global experience in earthquake and outbreak response. It also noted its existing collaboration with Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on emergency training.
