DHAKA, August 19, 2026 (BSS) — The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given policy approval to a number of proposals, including the procurement of 14 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), signing of a fertiliser supply agreement with a UAE-based company and procurement of driving simulators for technical training centres.

The approvals were given at the CCEA meeting held here with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The committee approved a proposal of the Industries Ministry for Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to sign an agreement with Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE, for importing urea fertiliser under the 2026-27 fiscal year’s annual procurement arrangement.

Another approved proposal concerns the procurement of 40 driving simulators for use as office/training equipment at 40 technical training centres under a project being implemented by the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).

The procurement will be made through the direct procurement method under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The committee also approved a proposal related to the Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Project for engaging technical assistance from MHI, Japan, the General Contractor (GC) of the project, to support daily production and maintenance operations.

The approval covers the engagement of consultants under the Technical Service (Phase-2) contract through a single-source selection method.

In another major decision, the committee approved the policy for procuring 14 cargoes of LNG from seven companies through the direct procurement method to maintain normal gas supply in the country in the national interest and during emergencies.

The LNG procurement proposal was placed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division in accordance with relevant provisions of the Public Procurement Act and Public Procurement Rules.

The committee’s decisions are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential fertiliser and gas, strengthening technical training facilities and supporting the continued operation of key industrial projects.
