Govt working to rehabilitate martyrs’ families, treat injured July fighters

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS)- The government is working to implement the core spirit of the July Mass Uprising, ensure appropriate rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and provide proper medical treatment and economic support to injured July fighters.

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Aazam Khan said this while chairing a meeting of the ‘Central Committee on Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs and July Fighters of the July Mass Uprising’ at the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs today.

He said the ministry and the newly formed Directorate of July Mass Uprising would work for the welfare of the families o the martyrs and injured fighter, leaving no scope for any kind of negligence.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to provide services to families affected and those injured in the violence of July ’24, the minister said, “The current government is committed to building Bangladesh with the spirit of the July Mass Uprising.”

State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain, who was present at the meeting, stressed medical treatment and rehabilitation of the injured, saying, “Our main goal is to ensure the rehabilitation of injured July fighters and families of the martyrs’ and to provide them with medical treatment on a priority basis.”

He said the government is working to ensure that services reached those most in need, rising above party and political considerations.

“We are extremely vigilant and proactive to ensure that the injured July fighters can become economically self-reliant and maintain their standard of living,” he said.

Meanwhile, highlighting the need to ensure accuracy and transparency in the lists, Secretary of the ministry Ashraful Islam said errors and complaints regarding the lists of July fighters and martyrs are being corrected with utmost transparency following investigations.

Applications from July martyrs and July fighters are being scrutinized through the relevant committees at the district level, including verification of medical certificates.

He said the goal was to provide a completely accurate and transparent list so that no ineligible person could benefit from it and no genuine July fighter or martyr family was left out.

Rokeya Begum, member of Parliament for Reserved Women’s Seat-345 and mother of July martyr Jabir, was present at the meeting.

Chief Executive Officer of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation and concerned officials were present at the meeting.

A representative of the families of martyrs of the July Mass Uprising and a representative of the July fighters, both nominated by the government, were also present.
