DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - The Health Ministry has appointed 69 officials to inspect and monitor all government hospitals across the country to improve the quality of healthcare, maintain administrative discipline and ensure better services for all.
The information was disclosed in an office order issued by the Health Services Division of the ministry on Sunday last, official sources said here today.
Officials ranging from additional secretaries to assistant secretaries of the ministry have been assigned to oversee the hospitals in designated districts and upazilas.
According to the order, the officials will coordinate with hospital and institutional heads to take necessary measures to improve healthcare services, focusing on manpower, cleanliness, medical equipment, infrastructure development, security and overall management.
Administrative or personal officers working in the concerned divisions, wings or sections will accompany the inspecting officials to provide secretarial support during the monitoring visits.
The officials will also regularly monitor the digital attendance of doctors and health workers at hospitals under their jurisdiction and submit reports on attendance. They have been instructed to coordinate with Deputy Commissioners, Civil Surgeons, Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers to ensure progress in vaccination programmes, non-communicable disease prevention and public awareness activities.
Their responsibilities also include supporting programmes aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality, providing healthcare services for senior citizens, implementing nutrition programmes and participating in other public health initiatives.
The officials will encourage the healthcare institutions to undertake innovative and effective measures to improve the quality of services and provide necessary assistance in implementing such initiatives.
The order instructed the officials to submit their observations and recommendations to the designated ministry’s section by the 7th of every month and take necessary steps regarding the recommendations that can be implemented.
The order also made it mandatory for each assigned official to conduct at least one inspection during the current month and at least one inspection every month.
