DHAKA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - The Cabinet at its weekly meeting today congratulated the Bangladesh National Cricket Team on its historic nine-wicket victory over hosts Australia in the first Test of the two-match series in Darwin. The match was played from August 13 to 17.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat here.

The Cabinet observed that the victory was not merely a win in a single match but a remarkable manifestation of Bangladesh's growing capability, confidence, discipline, team unity and competitive spirit in international Test cricket.

This historic success of the national cricket team will inspire the country's young and emerging generation to take greater interest in sports and further strengthen Bangladesh's dignity and image on the international stage, it said.

The Cabinet extended its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, its captain and players, coaches, support staff, Bangladesh Cricket Board and all others associated with the historic achievement of Bangladesh's first Test victory on Australian soil.
