BAGERHAT, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam today said the government is implementing various initiatives to improve the quality of education and make the country's youth skilled, modern and technology-friendly.
He said modern infrastructure and a conducive environment at educational institutions are essential for developing students' knowledge and skills in line with advances in technology and communication.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with teachers and students at Bagerhat Government Prafulla Chandra (P.C.) College this afternoon.
He said knowledge, technology and skills are the main drivers of development in the modern world. Therefore, students should go beyond academic education and gain practical skills as well as familiarity with modern technology and communication systems.
He said the future of the country depends on its young generation, adding that the government is working to create opportunities for students to develop their talents and skills and contribute to national development.
The meeting was chaired by college Principal Professor Parveen Akhter. Bagerhat-2 MP Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad, District Council Administrator Barrister Sheikh Md. Zakir Hossain, District BNP Convener Engineer ATM Akram Hossain Talim, former District BNP President MA Salam, teachers, governing body members, local political leaders and students attended the meeting.
Teachers and students discussed various issues, including institutional infrastructure, the educational environment and facilities for students.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the widening and reconstruction of the 34-kilometre Bagerhat-Dashani-Helatala road. The project is being implemented at a cost of Tk 72.98 crore.
Later, he attended a district BNP rally at the Bagerhat Zilla Parishad auditorium.
During his daylong visit, Sheikh Rabiul Alam also visited the grave of late Badal Morol, president of Baruipara Union Krishak Dal, and inaugurated a medical foundation in Bagerhat.
