KISHOREGANJ, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - The government has ordered a feasibility study and necessary administrative measures for constructing two bridges over the Old Brahmaputra River in Pakundia upazila, just a day after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced the initiative during his visit to Kishoreganj.
The directive was issued on Monday morning in a letter signed by Md Uzzal Hossain, protocol officer-1 to the Prime Minister.
According to the letter, the prime minister visited Kishoreganj on Sunday (August 16), as part of his official tour. During a public rally at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat area in Pakundia, Kishoreganj-2 (Pakundia-Katiadi) lawmaker Advocate Jalal Uddin called for the construction of two bridges over the Old Brahmaputra River.
In his speech, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman subsequently announced that steps would be taken to construct the bridges.
The following day, the relevant authorities received instructions to conduct feasibility studies for bridges connecting Muniarikanada with Datter Bazar and Mirzapur with Tangabor across the Old Brahmaputra River in Pakundia.
The authorities have also been asked to take necessary administrative measures and submit a report on the progress of the activities undertaken in this regard.
Local residents have welcomed the swift government action, saying people living on both sides of the river have long suffered from poor connectivity and transportation difficulties.
Advocate Jalal Uddin, Member of Parliament for Kishoreganj-2 (Pakundia-Katiadi), confirmed the issuance of the letter ordering the feasibility studies for the two bridges.
