MYMENSINGH, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury MP has said the future leadership of the country will emerge from today’s meritorious students.

“Alongside good academic results, students must build themselves as capable citizens by embracing morality, human values and patriotism,” he said.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a reception accorded to meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 in the 2026 SSC, Dakhil and technical examinations at the Nandail Upazila Parishad Hallroom today.

Congratulating the meritorious students, the state minister said achieving good results in examinations alone is not enough; students must prepare themselves to serve the country and nation by acquiring knowledge, skills and human qualities.

The meritorious generation must play an important role in making future Bangladesh more prosperous and stronger, he said.

At the event, the state minister handed over commemorative awards, crests, flowers and saplings to the meritorious students.

Senior Joint Convener of the Upazila unit of BNP Mizanur Rahman Liton, Member Secretary Md Enamul Qadir, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Salah Uddin Mahmud, Upazila Secondary Education Officer (in charge) Md Mofizul Islam, heads of various educational institutions, guardians and meritorious students were present ,among others, at the event.

Earlier, on the final day of his three-day official visit, the State Minister inspected Chandipasha Government High School in Nandail.

During the visit, he exchanged views with teachers on improving the quality of education at schools.

He also instructed the authorities to install necessary CCTV cameras to ensure students’ safety and said an initiative would be taken to construct a boundary wall around the school.

Later, the state minister inaugurated RCC paving work on the road from the Roads and Highways Department road to the road of Dr Abu Ali Fakir in Ward Number  4 of Nandail Municipality.

Local leaders of the BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and their affiliated and associate organisations were present with the state minister.

Yasser Khan also attended a discussion titled “Historical Darul Uloom Deoband and the Contribution of Qawmi Madrasahs,” organised by the Nandail upazila branch of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh and Qawmi Madrasahs at the Nandail Model Mosque Hallroom in Mymensingh.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, he said work is underway to fulfil his pre-election pledge to make Nandail free of drugs, gambling and extortion, adding that the upazila has already been made free of extortion.

He said those involved in drugs must face strict punishment and announced the formation of a committee to make Nandail free of drugs and gambling.

He said TK  42 lakh has so far been provided for development work at 14 mosques, with more assistance planned for mosques and madrasahs in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The state minister also said 180 roads had been constructed in Nandail over the past six months. 

BTV will organise an annual Qira'ah competition, while a nationwide Hamd-Naat competition will be held in 2026.
