Ministers inspect preparations for National Fisheries Fortnight

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid and State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku today inspected preparations for the central programmes of National Fisheries Fortnight-2026 in Katiadi and Pakundia of Kishoreganj.

The ministers visited the venue of the central inaugural ceremony at Achmita George Institute Mini Stadium in Katiadi, the Achmita Government Carp Hatchery Complex and the fish fry release site at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat on the Old Brahmaputra River in Pakundia.

During the inspection, they reviewed overall preparations, including the stage, seating arrangements, security measures, entry and exit routes, traffic management, venue decoration and arrangements for releasing fish fry.

They also instructed officials concerned to take necessary measures to ensure the programmes are conducted smoothly and properly.

The central inaugural ceremony of National Fisheries Fortnight-2026 will be held in Katiadi tomorrow, while fish fry will be released into the Old Brahmaputra River at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in Pakundia on the same day.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the central ceremony as the chief guest and participate in the fish fry release programme.

The event will also feature honours for the country's nationally selected best fisheries entrepreneurs and farmers. Discussions will focus on fisheries sector development, boosting production, sustainable management of fisheries resources, safe fish production and encouraging fish farmers.

Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, the local administration, Department of Fisheries and other concerned agencies have taken coordinated measures to ensure the successful holding of the programmes.

State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency MP Advocate Md Jalal Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Md Khaled Kanak, and officials of the ministry, Department of Fisheries, district and upazila administrations and law enforcement agencies were present during the inspection.
