DHAKA, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today paid tribute at the grave of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia on the occasion of her 82nd birth anniversary.

The minister paid homage at the grave of the former prime minister, located in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, around 4pm.

At the time, Dr Zahid recited Surah Fatiha and offered munajat, seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia.

After paying tribute, Dr Zahid told BSS, "On the occasion of Khaleda Zia's 82nd birthday, I have prayed for the forgiveness of her soul. Alongside, I am also praying for the forgiveness of the soul of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman."

"I am praying for all those who have struggled for democracy, who have been martyred, and who have fought until death to protect democracy," he added.

Recalling Begum Khaleda Zia, he said, "Khaleda Zia loved democracy throughout her life. She never compromised. She loved the country and its people."
