BAGERHAT, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - The 108th founding anniversary of Government Prafulla Chandra College, one of the oldest and most reputed higher educational institutions in South Bengal, was celebrated today with various programmes.

Established on August 9, 1918, at the initiative of renowned scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, the college has completed 107 years and entered its 108th year.

The anniversary programme began in the morning with floral tributes paid to the portrait of the college's founder. A colourful procession and rally were later held on the campus, joined by teachers, students, officials and members of the Government Prafulla Chandra College BNCC Platoon.

The campus was decorated to mark the occasion.

The institution was nationalised in 1979 and is now affiliated with the National University.

Newly appointed Principal Professor Parveen Akhter led the programmes.

Speakers expressed hope that the college would continue its long-standing contribution to education while promoting discipline, leadership and academic excellence in the years ahead.
