RANGPUR, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 550 saplings of rare and endangered tree species were planted on the historic Carmichael College campus in Rangpur city this afternoon to preserve greenery and biodiversity and help restore the ecosystem.

The tree plantation programme was jointly organised by the Carmichael College authorities, BRAC Bank, environmental organisation Tarupallab and the Carmichael College Alumni Association.

Professor Dr Md Abul Hossain Mandal of Carmichael College inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling at a brief ceremony held on the campus as the chief guest.

BRAC Bank Vice-Chairman and writer Faruk Moinuddin, Tarupallab General Secretary and environmental writer Mokaram Hossain, Carmichael College Alumni Association President Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam and General Secretary Rakibus Sultan Manik attended the event as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Tarupallab General Secretary Mokaram Hossain said the initiative aims to transform the Carmichael College campus into a rich repository of rare and indigenous tree species.

"We hope that by planting more varieties of trees in the future, the campus environment will be further enriched and serve as a living green research field for students," he said.

Former office secretary of the Carmichael College Alumni Association Mahbubul Haque Prince supervised different activities of the programme.

The organisers expressed gratitude to all individuals and organisations who contributed to making the initiative successful.
