DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Embassy in Uzbekistan has observed July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity, commemorating the sacrifices of the martyrs and highlighting the role of youth in building a democratic, prosperous and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

The daylong programme began with a discussion attended by members of the Bangladeshi community in Uzbekistan, according to a press release received here today.

Messages from the President and the Prime Minister were read out, while a documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened.

The first phase of the programme concluded with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the souls of the July martyrs and continued peace, prosperity and progress for the country.

Addressing the discussion, Bangladesh Ambassador to Uzbekistan Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam paid tribute to the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising and highlighted the significance of the day.

He called upon all Bangladeshis to contribute from their respective positions to building a new Bangladesh inspired by the aspirations and spirit of the July Mass Uprising.

The second phase featured a panel discussion titled "Youth as a Change Maker in a Changing World", attended by rectors, vice-rectors, teachers, students and distinguished personalities from various universities in Uzbekistan.

The programme was moderated by Ambassador Dr Islam, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Rector of TIFT University Aziz Nadirov, Rector of Sarbon University Muzaffar Jalalov, President of the Uzbekistan Economic Assembly Mukhtar Omarov and Editor-in-Chief of Tashkent Times Akbar Yusupov.

In his remarks, the ambassador highlighted the leadership and contributions of Bangladesh's youth and students in bringing about positive political, economic, social and cultural transformation.

Referring to the July-August Mass Uprising, he said the courage, determination and sacrifices of the younger generation had strengthened the country's aspirations for a democratic, modern, prosperous and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

He also reaffirmed the current government's commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, to empowering young people and expanding their participation in the country's socio-economic development.

The ambassador underscored the importance of harnessing the energy and creativity of the youth of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in agriculture, information technology, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, climate change, food security, sports and culture.

Other speakers highlighted the longstanding religious and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan and expressed optimism that greater engagement between the youth of the two countries would open a new chapter in bilateral friendship and cooperation.
