MYMENSINGH, Aug 5, 2026, (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said the nation will always remember with respect those whose sacrifices and bloodshed created an environment for free, fair and impartial elections in the country, enabling the BNP to assume the responsibility of running the state.

He made the remarks while addressing a reception and discussion marking "July Mass Uprising and Resistance Day", organised by the Nandail Upazila Administration at the its auditorium.

The state minister said the BNP, its associate and affiliated organisations, and their colleagues, brothers and sisters had fought relentlessly under the leadership of Prime Minister and party Chairman Tarique Rahman throughout the 17-year-long movement against fascism.

"Today, we have been able to form the government as a result of their immense sacrifices," he said.

Highlighting his own political role, Yasser Khan Chowdhury said he has been working quietly and tirelessly for the overall development of Nandail.

"During the difficult period of fascism, when no one dared to lead the BNP in Nandail, I stood on the streets with party leaders and activists and led the movement and struggle," he said.

He said many people were imprisoned during the 17-year struggle, many endured repression and persecution, and many narrowly escaped death.

At the meeting, the state minister announced several important measures for the rehabilitation of the families of those martyred in the July movement and the July fighters.

He pledged that semi-pucca houses would be built for the listed July martyrs' families within the next two months.

He also said tube wells would be installed at the homes of the martyrs' families within the next seven days.

In addition, 'Family Cards' and 'Farmer Cards' will be provided to the martyrs' families in Nandail.

The state minister said development work on roads, bridges, culverts, schools and madrasas in every ward, union and municipality of Nandail is being monitored regularly and will be implemented on a priority basis.

The reception was chaired by Nandail Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Salah Uddin Mahmud.

Mohammad Ali, younger brother of martyr Jubayer Islam; Mohammad Ali, elder brother of martyr Humayun Kabir; July fighter Sheikh Sadi; July fighter Rana Hossain; Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Piyas Hossain; Jubo Dal leader Hakikujjaman Nawfel; and July movement coordinator and student leader Saiful Islam Shahin, among others, addressed the event.

Nandail Press Club President Enamul Haque Babul, Nandail Upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Liton, Upazila Livestock Officer K.M. Abdullah Al Mamun, and Nandail Upazila BNP Member Secretary Enamul Kader, among others, were present at the event.

Freedom fighters, family members of the July martyrs, the July fighters honoured at the programme, local journalists, civil administration officials, and a large number of BNP leaders and activists, along with leaders and activists of its associate organisations, were present.

Before the reception, the state minister arrived in Nandail in the morning and planted trees on the Shaheed Minar premises in memory of the July martyrs.

He later signed a graffiti installation in front of the Upazila Parishad to preserve the memory of July.

In the afternoon, he inaugurated a photo exhibition titled 'Chhobite July' (July in Pictures) at an open space in front of the auditorium. He also inaugurated a special book fair on July there.

He then wrote about his own experiences on the "Smritir Canvas" (Canvas of Memories) and signed it.

Later, he formally inaugurated the "July Corner" established at the Upazila Parishad.

After the programme, State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury visited the graves of his family members, offered Fateha and prayed.
