DMP announces traffic diversions for July Uprising Day events

DHAKA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions across key areas of the capital from 5:00am today to facilitate a series of state-sponsored commemorative and cultural events marking July Mass Uprising Day.

In a public notice, the DMP said vehicular movement will be restricted around Shahbagh, Suhrawardy Udyan, and the stretch from Khejur Bagan Crossing to Manik Mia Avenue until further notice.

The restrictions have been imposed to ensure smooth traffic management during book presentation ceremonies at the July 36 Memorial Monument in Shahbagh, tribute programmes honouring the martyrs, an open concert at Suhrawardy Udyan organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and a cultural concert at Manik Mia Avenue adjacent to the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.

To ease congestion, the DMP Traffic Division has introduced a comprehensive traffic management plan featuring U-turns, road diversions and alternative routes for vehicles travelling through affected areas.

Motorists travelling from Farmgate towards Shahbagh have been advised to use Hotel InterContinental Crossing via Hare Road and Minto Road, while those approaching from Science Laboratory, Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi, Asadgate and the Elevated Expressway have been instructed to follow designated alternative routes.

The police also requested commuters using the Elevated Expressway to avoid the Farmgate exit ramp and instead use the FDC (Hatirjheel) exit to minimise congestion.

DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed urged city residents and motorists to follow traffic instructions and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the events.
