DHAKA, Aug 2, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today 
said that green chili prices are expected to return to a tolerable level 
within the next two to five days as the government begins imports from 
tomorrow to boost market supply.

"The import of green chilies will begin tomorrow. We expect prices to come 
down to a tolerable level within the next two to five days. The government 
has already allowed the import of green chilies and is taking steps to reduce 
the existing import duty to help bring down prices," he said.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inspecting 
the Shantinagar kitchen market in the city, said a press release. 

The minister visited the market along with Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul 
Muktadir and State Minister for Food Md. Abdul Bari to assess the supply, 
prices and overall situation of essential commodities. 

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam also 
accompanied them.

During the visit, the ministers spoke with traders and monitored the 
availability and prices of key food items as part of the government's ongoing 
efforts to keep the market stable.

In his remarks, Muktadir said the government would continue taking all 
necessary measures to keep essential commodities affordable for consumers.

He also urged the media to present objective reports on the market situation 
to help create public awareness and discourage unscrupulous traders from 
creating artificial shortages or manipulating prices.

Earlier in the day, the ministers attended a review meeting at the Ministry 
of Commerce, where officials discussed the supply situation and pricing of 
essential food and agricultural commodities.

They expressed optimism that the government's latest measures, including 
increased imports and fiscal support, would help stabilize the green chili 
market and provide relief to consumers in the coming days.
