DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today called on the people to remain united and vigilant to ensure that all citizens can genuinely enjoy democratic and economic freedom and reap the benefits of independence.

"Bangladesh has immense potential. Our economy had suffered in the past due to injustice, plunder, oppression and misuse of state funds. Our collective efforts can rebuild a strong economic foundation for the country," he said.

He made this remark while addressing the July Memorial Rally 2026 as the chief guest at the Cumilla District Shilpakala Academy today.

He said no conspiracy could obstruct Bangladesh's democratic progress if the people remained alert against injustice, irregularities and anti-state plots.

"Unity displayed by the people in resisting injustice must continue. A vested quarter still attempting to hinder the country's progress by creating instability and disorder," he noted.

He said differences of opinion are natural in a democratic society, but respect for differing views and mutual tolerance is essential for democracy.

"The government would give due importance to the people's reasonable opinions and collective strength," he said.

Referring to those martyred and injured during the July Mass Uprising, he said the nation would always remember their sacrifices with profound respect.

"The government is giving the highest priority to the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured and had undertaken necessary initiatives to improve medical care and welfare services for them," he added.

At the programme, the humanitarian organisation Bibek provided financial assistance for the treatment of those injured during the July uprising.

Cumilla City Corporation Administrator and Bibek founding chairman Yusuf Molla Tipu spoke as the keynote speaker.

Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Ms Rozy Akter, Civil Surgeon Dr Ali Nur Mohammad Bashir Ahmed and Cumilla Modern High School Governing Body Chairman Nizam Uddin Kaysar attended as special guests.
