DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged the public not to be misled by rumours or panic following the recovery of two bomb-like objects beneath the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro rail stations, stressing that neither object contained explosives or posed any security threat.

The appeal was made by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) of the DMP Munshi Shahabuddin at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road in the capital today.

He reiterated their call for the public to remain vigilant, avoid spreading rumours, and immediately report any suspicious or unattended objects to law enforcement agencies for prompt assessment and necessary action.

"We earnestly request everyone not to be misled or panicked by any rumours or propaganda," he said.

He urged citizens to immediately inform law enforcement agencies if they notice any suspicious object or receive information about any subversive activity so that authorities can take prompt action.

Referring to Saturday's incidents at Mirpur-10 and Farmgate, as well as a similar recovery in Motijheel a few days earlier, Shahabuddin said timely public cooperation is essential for ensuring public safety.

"After thorough examination, we confirmed that the object recovered from Mirpur-10 contained only Zarda (chewing tobacco) and betel leaf, while the sack recovered near Farmgate contained garbage. Neither contained explosives or any hazardous materials," he added.

The DMP official assured the public that the objects posed no risk.

The senior police officer also stressed the importance of close cooperation between the public and law enforcement in preventing sabotage and maintaining 
security.

"Collective efforts by the police and the public are essential to build a safe, peaceful and crime-free society," he continued.

Shahabuddin added that police remain fully prepared to respond to any security threat, including identifying and arresting those responsible for any criminal acts, conducting investigations, and taking legal action in accordance with the law.

Panic briefly spread across parts of the capital on Saturday morning after two suspicious, bomb-like objects were found beneath the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro rail stations.

Acting on reports from the public, local police, senior DMP officials, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit, and the Bomb Disposal Unit quickly responded to both locations, cordoned off the areas, and implemented precautionary security measures.

At Mirpur-10 Metro Station, bomb disposal experts examined a suspicious bag using an X-ray scanner, which detected a canister-shaped object inside. 

Following standard operating procedures (SOPs), the team used a frangible disruptor to safely neutralize the suspected device before opening the bag.

The inspection later revealed that the bag contained only a container of Zarda and betel leaf.

In a separate incident near Farmgate under Tejgaon Police Station, authorities responded to a discarded sack that had raised concerns among passersby. 

After securing the area, the Bomb Disposal Unit carried out a controlled hand-entry inspection and confirmed that the sack contained only garbage and no explosive or hazardous substances.

The DMP said both incidents were handled strictly in accordance with established safety protocols and commended the swift response of its bomb disposal personnel.
