DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali today pledged the embassy's full support for rebuilding the nation in line with the aspirations of the July martyrs while observing July Martyrs' Day 2026 in Tokyo.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo observed the day with due solemnity at its conference hall, paying tribute to martyr Abu Sayeed and all those who laid down their lives during the July Mass Uprising, according to a message received here today.  

The programme began with a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs. Messages issued by the President and the Prime Minister marking the occasion were read out, while the national flag at the embassy was flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Addressing a discussion, Ambassador Daud Ali highlighted the background of the July Mass Uprising and the sacrifices made by the martyrs.

He said martyr Abu Sayeed's fearless sacrifice in resisting authoritarian rule played a pivotal role in transforming the student movement into a mass uprising and paving the way for establishing justice in the country.

The ambassador said the July Mass Uprising created an opportunity to build a state founded on equality, good governance and freedom from fascism, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

He said the country had regained the people's right to elect their representatives through a fair electoral process, describing it as a renewed hope for the nation.

The envoy said the democratic environment and good governance established under the leadership of the present government had injected new momentum into nation-building and national development.

Expressing confidence in the government's leadership, he said the embassy firmly believes the current government is administering the country with sincerity and dedication.

He also pledged the embassy's full cooperation in implementing every positive initiative of the government aimed at building the country envisioned by the martyrs.

"We all want to strengthen the hands of the government so that it can effectively govern the country and play a distinctive role on the global stage in fulfilling the aspirations of the people," he said.

Reaffirming commitment to the martyrs' ideals, the ambassador called for united efforts to advance the country's development and fulfil their dreams and aspirations.

The programme concluded with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs, speedy recovery of those injured during the uprising, and continued peace, prosperity and progress for the country.
