Mustafa Monwar was versatile talent, genuine artist: Info Minister

DHAKA, June 30, 2026 (BSS) - Paying deep tribute to renowned artist Mustafa Monwar, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today said he was a versatile talent and a genuine artist in essence. 

"If a list of the country's talented people is prepared, Mustafa Monwar will be considered one of the foremost among them," he said.

The information minister made the remarks while participating in the namaz-e-janaza of Mustafa Monwar on Bangladesh Television (BTV) premises at Rampura in the capital this morning.

He expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

Highlighting Mustafa Monwar's diverse career, Swapon said, "We have been familiar with his versatile talent and work since our youth. He was active in many fields of art and literature. Just as he constantly practiced his talent, he also skillfully led the relevant institutions." 

He said wherever Mustafa Monwar served, he left a lasting impression through his sincerity, efficiency, competence and unique outlook. 

The minister also paid deep tribute to the deceased and expressed condolences on behalf of the BTV family and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stating that it was an absolute privilege to be present on the BTV premises, his memorable workplace, on the final journey of the deceased. 

BTV Director General Md Mahbubul Alam, BTV officials and employees, prominent figures from the cultural arena and long-time colleagues of Mustafa Monwar participated in the namaz-e-janaza.

Eminent cultural personality and Ekushey Padak-winning painter Mustafa Monwar passed away at a city hospital on Monday due to age-related complications at the age of 90.
