DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Police today stressed the need for building an integrated security framework through enhanced diplomatic security cooperation, effective information sharing and stronger institutional capacity to address the growing challenges of global crime.

The observations came at a coordination meeting titled 'Diplomatic Security Cooperation, Information Sharing and Capacity Building of Bangladesh Police', organised by Bangladesh Police for the first time at a hotel in the capital.

The meeting, chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monjur Morshed Chowdhury and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam as guests.

Ambassadors stationed in Dhaka, security officials from foreign missions, representatives of international organisations and senior officials of Bangladesh Police also took part in the meeting.

A documentary highlighting the activities of Bangladesh Police was screened at the beginning of the programme.

Speaking at the event, Secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Md Nazrul Islam stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic security and expanding international cooperation to enhance global security.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam said the Diplomatic Security Division of Bangladesh Police has been making commendable contributions to ensuring the safety of diplomats in the country. He emphasised the need for establishing a specialised unit dedicated to providing security for foreign diplomatic missions.

He also called for expanding cooperation between Bangladesh Police and foreign missions on security-related issues.

Senior Secretary Monzur Morshed Chowdhury said ensuring security in the current global environment has become increasingly difficult without close coordination, information exchange and communication among nations.

Referring to the participation of Bangladesh Police in United Nations peacekeeping missions, he said the force is also working to strengthen international cooperation in combating cybercrime, financial crime, transnational organised crime and other cross-border security threats.

IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir said Bangladesh Police is not only responsible for maintaining domestic law and order but has also emerged as a reliable partner in the global security architecture.

He said the force's participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations since 1989 reflects its enduring commitment to international cooperation.

The IGP said effective policing in today's interconnected world depends on meaningful collaboration and close coordination with international partners at the diplomatic level.

He said the initiative would establish direct communication between foreign missions and the key operational and service units of Bangladesh Police, facilitating faster coordination, effective communication and improved operational support.

Calling for stronger partnerships, he urged all stakeholders to work together to enhance information sharing, strengthen coordination and create new avenues for cooperation.

Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Headquarters Belal Uddin presented the keynote paper at the meeting.

The paper noted that the nature of crime has become increasingly complex in the current global context, with violent extremism and organised crime posing major challenges to law enforcement agencies.

It said cybercrime, digital fraud, terrorist financing, human trafficking, online gambling, artificial intelligence-enabled crimes, deepfakes, misinformation and disinformation are no longer confined to individual countries but have emerged as global security concerns requiring coordinated international responses.

Foreign diplomats attending the meeting welcomed the initiative and expressed their commitment to working closely with Bangladesh Police in addressing common security challenges.

The meeting also recommended strengthening coordination and information sharing between Bangladesh Police and partner countries to combat money laundering, financial crime, cybercrime, human trafficking and other forms of transnational crime.
