Bangladesh, Azerbaijan to open resident missions soon

DHAKA, June 18, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh and Azerbaijan today agreed to open resident diplomatic missions in each other’s capitals as the two countries move to deepen bilateral relations and expand diplomatic engagement.

The decision was taken during a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov this afternoon, according to a press release.

During the conversation, Bayramov warmly congratulated Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in different areas of mutual interest between the two friendly countries, the release said. 

They also discussed the opening of resident diplomatic missions in their respective countries, a move expected to facilitate closer political, economic and people-to-people relations.

Rahman invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

The two ministers expressed optimism that the growing engagement would contribute to elevating Bangladesh-Azerbaijan relations to a new height.
