PMO SDG coordinator inspects canal excavation works at Dumuria

KHULNA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - Prof Dr SM Abdul Awal, Principal Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), today inspected canal excavation and land development works adjacent to the Rostompur Ashrayan Project in Dumuria upazila of the district.

During the visit, he said the government is ensuring sustainable rehabilitation of landless and homeless people across the country through the Ashrayan Project.

"The canal excavation and land development activities will play a significant role in improving the living standards of Ashrayan residents, mitigating waterlogging and maintaining environmental balance. The project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe while ensuring quality standards," he said.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat attended the programme as a special guest.

Addressing the programme, she said the district administration is working relentlessly to ensure adequate security and modern facilities for residents of the Ashrayan Project.

"The canal excavation will improve the area's drainage system, while the developed land will create new opportunities for employment and better living conditions for the residents," she added.

Among others, Dumuria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabita Sarkar and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Amit Kumar Biswas accompanied the inspection team.

After the inspection, the officials visited different parts of the project and exchanged views with local beneficiaries and officials concerned.

According to local administration sources, the project is expected to improve drainage, reduce waterlogging and enhance living conditions for residents of the Dumuria Ashrayan area.
